Vilasini Natyam Performance by Dr. YashodaThakore

Dr. Yashoda Thakore's Vilasini Natyam recital at Telugu University auditorium revealed an entirely new dimension of dance and expression. Her exquisite elucidation of each emotion kept the 200-strong audience glued to their seats.

Yashoda started the performance with a traditional invocation Naandi Slokas, VinayakaPrarthana in ragam Mohanakalyani. This prayer was learnt directly by Padmabhushan Swapnasundari from her Guru and accomplished devadasi Maddula Lakshminarayana. Next up, was a mesmerising Varnam composed by Ummidishetty Venkatasamy Naidu in ragam Malayamarutam. The Kshetrayya Padam in ragam Mohanam, presented as a mezuvani, was the highlight of the evening. The heroine says, Oka saarike Ilagaite oho! ideti rati ra?!' "Just once…and you are tired out? What sort of lovemaking is this? My dear MuvvaGopala, you come and satisfy me!" Yashoda brought forth an infinite palette of expressions as she chided her lover and invited Lord Krishna to assuage her thirst. As a finale, she chose to present Parijatam, the oldest dance opera of the temple dancers of Telugu land, in Ragamalika and Talamalika.
