Concert-Lecture by Dr. Sriram Parasuram
Dr. Sriram Parasuram presented a concert lecture at Saptaparni. The programme was well-attended by classical music enthusiasts from all over the twin cities.
Dr. Sriram began his concert-lecture with a raga analyzation of Raag Bairagi – Raga Revathi, Raga Mohana – Raag Bhupali. He demonstrated how various combinations of just three swaras can create beautiful music. He illustrated his talk with easy to understand examples and comparisons. He also explained the nuances of Raga Kadanakutuhalam in detail.
He began his Violin concert, with 'Gam Ganapathi' in Tisramadi. He played a classical 'note' from the repertoire of renowned Carnatic music doyen Ganakaladhara Madurai Mani Iyer to illustrate western notations composed many decades ago. He then played an exquisite 'Maakelaravicharamu' in Ragam Ravi Chandrika in Deshadi talam. He also sang a soulful bhajan in Hindustani Raag Bhairavi. He ended with an instrumental piece that combined Carnatic, Hindustani notes and crescendoed into a brisk tarana. Sri DSR Murthy on the Mridangam and Shri Surjeet Singh on Tabla accompanied him ably and set the pace for the evening's concert.
The concert-lecture also had an interesting interactive session between the audience, many of them followers of classical music, and the maestro.
