Madhavimala has spent over twenty years exploring the intricacies of Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi. Masters from the University of Hyderabad and diplomas from the AP Education Department gIve her greater insight into the discipline of the two classical dance forms.Starting tutelage with Dr. K Uma Vyjayanthimala, she went on to study under Sri Vempati Kodanda Rama Sastry, Smt. Dr. K. Uma Rama Rao and Sri Vedantam Prahalada Sarma amongst others.

Madhavimala and her sister Smt. K Uma Vyjayanthimala set up a dance school in Warangal in Year 1985. Soon after, 'Nrityamala,' a second dance school was born in Hyderabad. Vasanta Vaibhava Nayika,' Mahishasura Mardini.' Alivelumanga Vilasam' and 'Ramappa' dance ballets carry her mark of imaginative choreography. Madhavimala penned down her understanding of the dance forms in articles like 'Divi Nundi Bhuviki Digi Vacchina Natyam,' 'Vishnu VichitraVilasam - Natya Vruttulu' and 'Maharshi Swati Srujana Phalam - Sangeeta Natya Vaadyaalu.'

She earned a doctorate for her thesis on 'Tarigonda Vengamamba Yaksha Gaanaalu' and their adaptation to the Kuchipudi dance form.
