Hailing from the rich traditions of Dharwad, Kumar Mardur has had his training from his father Pundit Somanath Mardur, a renowned Hindustani Classical Vocalist of Kirana Gharana. Pundit Somanath is the senior disciple of Padmabhushan Dr. Puttaraj Gavaiji and Padmabhushan Dr. Basavaraj Rajguru and Padmavibhushan Dr. Mallikarjun Mansur.

Endowed with a melodious voice, Kumar is known for his pure and aesthetic presentation of ragas, crystal clear taan patterns and command over laya. Kumar has completed a Master’s Degree in Music from Karnatak University, Dharwad and is currently working with ITC Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata as Junior Guru. Kumar has travelled extensively in India and abroad including USA, Singapore and Thailand. He is an approved artiste through Akashwani and Doordarshan and performs through them regularly.
